William Labov

Today, I went to a talk given by this man. It was about the direction in which Southern (US) English is moving towards. There are lots of technical stuff I do not understand, but the general premise of exploring the changing pronunciations and the movements in the pronunciation, as well as its relationship to particular ideological and political affiliations, is extremely interesting.

I wished I had gone to talk to Labov after his talk. But I was feeling shy, which is so unlike myself.

Plus I wanted to rush off to study…loser!
